Sewing needles to use with merino fabric

You use a ballpoint needle (also known as a jersey needle) merino knit fabrics. 
Why use these needles:
Slides Between Fibers: Unlike sharp or universal needles that pierce straight through fabric threads, a ballpoint needle features a slightly rounded tip that gently parts the interlocking loops of knit fabric instead of cutting or breaking them. 
Prevents Damage: By slipping between the yarns rather than puncturing them, it stops snags, runs, broken threads, and tiny holes from forming along your seam lines.
Reduces Skipped Stitches: Using the proper rounded tip helps the sewing machine form clean, consistent stitches on elastic materials without damaging the garment. 
Ballpoint vs. Stretch Needles
Ballpoint Needles: Best for regular, stable knits with minimal to moderate stretch (like t-shirts, cotton jersey, and sweatshirt fleece). 
Stretch Needles: Best for highly elastic, high-recovery fabrics containing heavy Spandex or Lycra (like swimwear, activewear, and dancewear), which feature a specialized scarf design to prevent skipped stitches on ultra-bouncy
